The Third Great Craftsmen Innovation Exchange Conference and Great Craftsmen Forum, themed “Craftsmanship Forges Dreams, Moving Forward to Innovation,” was held in Chongqing. The results of the 2025 Great Craftsmen talent recognition were announced. Diao Tongwu, a fixture repairman, senior engineer, and chief technician at China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Jinan Truck Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Shandong Heavy Industry; Tang Haiwei, a component tester and chief technician at the Product Test Center of Weichai Holding Group Co., Ltd.; Cai Rong, a maintenance electrician and special technician in the machine repair workshop of Shaanxi Fast Gear Automotive Transmission Group Co., Ltd.; and Fan Fan, an engineer and senior technician in the assembly and welding support workshop of the body plant of Shaanxi Automobile Holding Group Co., Ltd., were honored to be selected. They were invited to attend the forum and present their innovative achievements. This marks the second time Shandong Heavy Industry has received this honor, following the recognition of Wang Shujun, a Great Craftsman.
Diao Tongwu has dedicated 26 years to the front line, diligently studying and practicing, acquiring exceptional skills and overcoming various cab welding technical challenges. His keen eye allows him to identify errors in various tooling designs. He leveraged his exceptional skills and pioneered technological innovation, fully participating in the development and construction of fixtures and welding lines for the HOWO cabs, T7H cabs, T5G cabs, “New Yellow River” cabs, and MAX cabs. In particular, he oversaw the development and design, process control analysis, production line planning and verification, and product validation and trial production of the “New Yellow River” intelligent cab, representing the highest level of domestic standards and leading the industry. He made outstanding contributions to the revitalization and development of China’s heavy-duty truck brands. He has been awarded the titles of National Model Worker, National May 1st Labor Medal, and National Technical Expert, and receives special government subsidies from the State Council.
Tang Haiwei is a leader in R&D and testing technology for internal combustion engines and components, and a leading figure in China’s dynamic measurement technology for high-temperature moving parts in internal combustion engines. For 25 years, Tang Haiwei has been dedicated to the research and application of cutting-edge testing technologies for internal combustion engines. His undivided attention and dedication have led to significant breakthroughs in the measurement of critical high-temperature moving parts, such as heat-loaded components, moving parts, and friction pairs. Many of these technologies are global industry firsts and at the world’s advanced level, contributing to the development of over 50% higher thermal efficiency internal combustion engines. Through his dedicated efforts and impressive achievements, he has become a leader in China’s innovation in dynamic measurement and testing technologies for internal combustion engines, and a quintessential example of Weichai’s innovative spirit. He has been awarded the “National May 1st Labor Medal” and “Lu Ban Chief Craftsman,” and receives a special government allowance from the State Council.
Fan Fan has been deeply involved in heavy-duty truck welding production for 23 years, mastering advanced technologies such as industrial robot operation and maintenance and intelligent manufacturing. He has participated in or led major equipment technical transformation projects, achieving significant results in reducing equipment failure rates, ensuring operational safety, improving production efficiency, and implementing electrical automation upgrades. She has accumulated 44 innovative research and development achievements, received five provincial and ministerial awards, applied for over 10 patents, compiled over 10 excellent work standards, and received numerous honors, including the “National May 1st Labor Medal.” She embodies the distinguished demeanor of a modern industrial worker.
Cai Rong has dedicated 14 years to equipment maintenance, embodying the craftsman’s spirit of “devoting one life to one task.” Since joining the company, she has completed over 800 equipment overhauls, solved over 600 difficult on-site maintenance problems, and led the renovation and functional upgrade of over 30 aging machine tools. She innovatively uses Renishaw laser interferometers to perform precision inspection and compensation on over 400 pieces of equipment, establishing a preventive maintenance system for the company’s equipment, significantly reducing the failure rate of critical equipment and becoming the cornerstone of stable operation. As a part-time trainer for the company, she transforms her practical experience into teaching resources, spearheading the development of over 400 equipment maintenance textbooks and teaching over 200 hours annually. She has been awarded honors such as the “National March 8th Red Banner Bearer” and receives a special government allowance from the State Council.
To date, Shandong Heavy Industry Group has 247 talents at or above the provincial level, including five Great Craftsmen, two recipients of the China Skills Award, seven National Technical Experts, and one National Young Professional. Going forward, Shandong Heavy Industry Group will further promote the spirit of craftsmanship, the spirit of hard work, and the spirit of model workers, fostering a fertile environment for talent growth within the company.
