Are you affected by the following maintenance taboos of Sinotruk trucks?

Sep 18, 2025

We, Ka Ge, drive our beloved car all year long, and everyone has some car maintenance tips. However, some so-called tips are useless, and improper maintenance can ruin your car. Remember the following maintenance dos and don’ts.

▎Opening the radiator cap when the engine is warm
When adding coolant or other fluids, the engine must be turned off. Otherwise, you could be burned by splashing coolant or hot steam, which can also adversely affect the car body. The correct method is to wait until the engine is cool, then bleed the pressure before opening the cap, and use a wet towel or other protective measures.

Also, it’s important to ensure the coolant level is between full and low. Otherwise, you need to add coolant (remember, never add water), and the level should not exceed the full mark. If you notice a rapid decrease in coolant over a short period of time, check the cooling system for leaks or visit a repair station.

▎Frequently changing brake pads
Brake pads are consumable items, and even novice drivers will experience some wear and tear. However, frequently changing them isn’t a good idea. If you replace your brake pads too frequently, there are two possible reasons: one could be a problem with the brake pads themselves, or the other could be due to driver mishandling.

Frequent sudden braking can cause significant wear and tear on the brake pads. Therefore, novice drivers should drive smoothly and be prepared for difficult roads. This minimizes the possibility of sudden braking, protecting both your car and yourself.

▎Adding Oil Without Changing It

Engine oil plays a vital role in the engine, often called its “blood.” Generally, after a certain amount of mileage, the oil deteriorates, requiring an oil change. However, what are the consequences of adding oil when the oil hasn’t deteriorated and the car is already in need of maintenance?

Adding oil to old engine oil is like mixing deteriorated oil with new oil, reducing its lubrication, friction-reducing, and cooling properties. Over time, this can lead to increased engine wear. Therefore, regular oil changes are essential to effectively maintain your engine.

▎ Excessive Tire Pressure
Tire pressure significantly impacts vehicle performance. Maintenance should not only assess tire wear, but also significantly reduce tire lifespan. Therefore, it’s important to pay close attention to tire pressure during daily vehicle use.

The ideal inflation pressure should be based on the manufacturer’s stated pressure. Unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, tire pressure adjustment is not necessary in winter or summer. Tire pressure is primarily determined by vehicle weight, ride height, and other factors.

▎ Pay attention to gloves when servicing vehicles.
Many drivers wear gloves when servicing their vehicles. These gloves protect against dirt and facilitate handling. With the recent colder weather, gloves can also provide protection from the cold. However, when servicing a vehicle, be careful not to get your gloves tangled in burrs (such as cooling fans and belts), as this can cause injury. Therefore, drivers should avoid wearing gloves when handling moving parts and tie up their sleeves and clothing.

All drivers should remember the following tips for vehicle maintenance.
